This unique car came in not running and with overheating issues. Newly acquired by a Healey customer, we set about making it safe and reliable. First, we got all of the gauges working and made sure the doors opened and closed with regularity and then tackled the various mechanical issues. Among the major issues were that the right front spindle was junk and had to be machined for a new bearing. The thermostat housing was completely disintegrated and held together with an oversized hose. All of the material from the thermostat housing ended up in the radiator which had to be re-cored. We also rebuilt the distributor and replaced the points and condenser as the rubbing block was basically gone. Down the road, we’re looking to try an electronic ignition as well as a higher voltage coil to make sure this beauty remains running nicely and used regularly.

John Saccameno’s new Healey. Basically, a brand new car: Chassis, body, engine, trans, suspension, etc. John bought the car from a customer who decided to go racing instead of pursuing the build with his son. We had done a fair amount of the work already. The car has a new Kilmartin chassis and typical Sport and Specialty quality body and paint work. Since the car was already white, John decided to brighten it up with the blue coves, leather interior, Mini Lite style wheels, and an Everfast blue top. The car also sports a five speed in place of the 4 speed and OD, as the original trans was useless. A wonderful car to drive and is winning a few awards!

This was a complete no expense spared nut and bolt restoration. This included a rotisserie complete strip to bare metal with concours quality body and paint work. All systems and components were evaluated and restored, or replaced. Some components were upgraded, but all with basically period available parts. Probably one of the finest GTVs in the States.

This is a special car, as it was a unique prototype and one of only six Cabriolets produced for the Turin show that year. It came to us after many years of neglect and unsympathetic craftsman performed at a variety of other shops. Over time we were able to get the car running right with the proper serial numbered engine rebuilt to factory specs, the transmission, and it’s column mounted four speed transmission working properly. We also made sure it had brakes that worked well, had a top that sealed, and an interior with a high quality fit and finish. Finally, once we aligned the car it drove great and is back on the road, being enjoyed.

As the prices for the actual Austin-Healey 100S cars have skyrocketed, a customer in St. Louis approached Sport and Specialty to build a unique one.

The car was engineered by Mark Baker with the intention of utilizing the best attributes of the 100S, while improving upon its inherent weaknesses, making it more friendly in today’s driving environment.

Starting life as a 100M, the car was given a completely new Kilmartin Sheetmetal chassis, correct body styling, as well as add on components to include a custom fabricated 100S oval style opening and grill. The interior was done correctly as a 100S, to include the properly vented seats and steering wheel. The four cylinder 100 engine was modified to produce 145 horsepower on pump gas, and cruise smoothly with taller gearing and a non-standard overdrive unit.

It was indeed intended as a tribute car, not a replica, as evidenced by the left-hand drive steering and rear exiting exhaust. All-in-all, a very special build, winning Best of Show at the 2010 Austin Healey Club of America Conclave in Galena, IL.
